SpaceX, the private aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, has been actively deploying its Starlink satellite constellation. Starlink aims to provide global broadband internet coverage from space. By launching large numbers of small satellites into low Earth orbit, SpaceX intends to create a network capable of delivering high-speed, low-latency internet access to even remote areas of the world.
SpaceX has launched multiple batches of Starlink satellites in order to expand the constellation.
SpaceX launched 47 more Starlink satellites into orbit on Saturday, June 24, 2023, at 10:33:19 PST from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The Falcon 9 rocket lifted off at 10:33 a.m. PST and deployed the satellites into orbit about 15 minutes later.
This was the 25th Starlink mission for SpaceX, and the 158th overall launch of a Falcon 9 rocket. The company has now launched over 2,700 Starlink satellites into orbit, and is continuing to launch more as it expands its global internet constellation.
The Starlink satellites are designed to provide high-speed, low-latency internet service to people around the world. They are currently in beta testing, and are available in select countries. SpaceX plans to launch thousands more Starlink satellites in the coming years, as it aims to provide global coverage.
The launch of the 47 Starlink satellites on Saturday was a success. The satellites were deployed into a low-Earth orbit, and are now being checked out by SpaceX engineers. Once they are confirmed to be functioning properly, they will be activated and begin providing internet service.
